In February 2023, Rise 4 Life organized free building safety inspections for more than 750 buildings in the Metn area after the earthquake tremors felt all around the Lebanese territory following the devastating earthquake that struck Turkey back in 2023, reassuring families that were anxious about the wellbeing of their homes.

As part of this initiative, a group of volunteer engineers from different specialties conducted free on-site inspections of buildings in Metn to assess visible cracks and structural concerns reported by residents. The action came in response to the fear and uncertainty experienced by many families who had suddenly begun questioning the safety of their homes and buildings.

When disasters strike nearby, their effects are not limited to physical geography. They also create anxiety, confusion, and urgent questions for communities trying to understand whether they are safe. In the days following the tremors, many people in Lebanon were left worried by newly visible cracks and changes in their buildings. By offering these building safety inspections free of charge, Rise 4 Life helped residents access specialized expertise at a moment when reassurance and guidance were deeply needed.

This effort also demonstrated the importance of rapid community response. In moments of collective anxiety, timely action can help prevent misinformation and reduce fear. The engineers who participated in the initiative brought not only their professional knowledge, but also a strong sense of social responsibility. Their contribution reflected how specialized skills can be mobilized in service of the public good.

These building safety inspections are part of what meaningful solidarity looks like in practice: identifying an urgent concern, responding quickly, and ensuring that people have access to support they may not otherwise be able to obtain. It is this combination of expertise and care that helps communities recover with greater calm and resilience.

As Lebanon continues to face recurring challenges, initiatives like these remind us that trust, safety, and resilience are built together. Rise 4 Life will continue working alongside professionals, volunteers, and local communities to create responses that are immediate, human, and rooted in real need.
